Thai Subtitle Generator

Add Thai subtitles to any video automatically. Upload a video with Thai speech and get accurate, timed subtitles in Thai script back, segmented into readable lines even though Thai is written without spaces between words.

Thai has five tones, an alphabet of forty-four consonants, vowels written before, after, above and below the consonant, and no spaces to mark where one word ends. The transcription handles the script and the segmentation rather than leaving you a single unbroken line.

What makes Thai subtitles different

Every language breaks in its own way. These are the parts that matter for Thai.

Breaks at real word boundaries

Thai is written without spaces, so a subtitle line can only break where a word ends. The transcript finds those boundaries so no line cuts a word in half.

Tones from context and sound

Five tones distinguish words that are otherwise identical. The transcript chooses the spelling — and the tone marks and consonant class that encode it — from the audio and the sentence.

Bangkok and regional Thai

Central Thai transcribes cleanly, and the northern, northeastern and southern accents on it are handled from the audio as far as they diverge from the standard.

Rendered correctly

Thai vowels and tone marks stack above and below the line, and many fonts clip them. The caption styles use fonts with proper Thai shaping so burned-in text is complete on a phone.

How to add Thai subtitles to a video

Upload, review, export. No timeline scrubbing and no timecodes typed by hand.

  1. 1

    Upload your video

Create your free account, then drop in an MP4, MOV, MKV or audio file containing Thai speech. There is nothing to install.

  2. 2

    Generate Thai subtitles

The model transcribes the Thai audio into Thai script, works out where the word boundaries fall so lines can break correctly, and times each line to the frame.

  3. 3

    Edit and export

Correct any names or terms in the editor, then download the video with Thai subtitles burned in, or export a clean .srt or .vtt file.

Segmenting Thai for the screen

The defining problem of Thai subtitles is that Thai does not write spaces between words. Spaces mark the ends of clauses and sentences, but within a clause the words run together, and a reader parses them from vocabulary and context. That is fine on a page. On a phone screen, where a subtitle has to break into two short lines, it means the software has to know where the words are — because breaking one in half produces gibberish.

The transcript here finds the word boundaries as part of transcription and uses them to break lines, so every line ends at the end of a word. Line length is measured in characters rather than words, which is what keeps two lines inside a vertical frame. Where a clause is short enough to fit, the line breaks there, which is what a professional Thai subtitler would do.

The script itself is the second problem. Thai vowels are written before, after, above or below the consonant they follow in speech, tone marks stack above vowels, and a font that does not shape Thai correctly will clip or misplace them. The caption styles use fonts with full Thai support, and the export is UTF-8 so nothing degrades on the way to YouTube or a player.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specific to Thai, not the generic list.

Thai has no spaces between words. Where are lines broken?

At word boundaries, which the transcript identifies as part of transcription. No line is ever broken inside a word.

Are tone marks written correctly?

Yes. The spelling, including tone marks and consonant class, is chosen from the audio and from context, and exported as UTF-8.

Does it handle Isan or southern accents?

Central Thai with a regional accent transcribes from the audio. Isan spoken as Lao is handled as far as the audio allows and can be corrected in the editor.

Will the Thai script render correctly when burned in?

Yes. The caption styles use fonts with correct Thai shaping, so stacked vowels and tone marks are complete rather than clipped.

Can I get English subtitles from a Thai video?

Translated tracks are on the roadmap. The Thai transcript comes first so a translation is made from a corrected source.

Can I edit my captions before exporting?

Yes. Correct the transcript, adjust timings, choose a caption style and then export the finished video or a clean SRT or VTT file.
