Hungarian Subtitle Generator

Add Hungarian subtitles to any video automatically. Upload a video with Hungarian speech and get accurate, timed subtitles back with á, é, í, ó, ö, ő, ú, ü and ű all written correctly and every suffix in the right form.

Hungarian is not related to any of its neighbours. It has eighteen cases, vowel harmony, definite and indefinite verb conjugations, and the double acute on ő and ű that most fonts and tools get wrong. The transcription is built for it specifically.

  • ő and ű correct
  • Vowel harmony applied

What makes Hungarian subtitles different

Every language breaks in its own way. These are the parts that matter for Hungarian.

The double acute

Ő and ű are written with the double acute, not with a tilde or an umlaut. Kor, kór and kör are different words, and the transcript writes the one that was said.

Suffixes that harmonise

Házban but kertben; asztalhoz but székhez. Suffix vowels are chosen to match the root under vowel harmony, the way a Hungarian writer would spell them.

Definite and indefinite verbs

Látok and látom are both "I see", and which one is right depends on the object. The transcript reads the sentence to choose, rather than guessing from sound.

Long words, narrow frame

Hungarian stacks suffixes into long words. Lines are split by width so a word is never broken across two cards in a vertical video.

How to add Hungarian subtitles to a video

Upload, review, export. No timeline scrubbing and no timecodes typed by hand.

  1. 1

    Upload your video

Create your free account, then drop in an MP4, MOV, MKV or audio file containing Hungarian speech. There is nothing to install.

  2. 2

    Generate Hungarian subtitles

The model transcribes the Hungarian audio with all nine accented vowels in place, applies vowel harmony to every suffix, chooses the verb conjugation from the object, and times each line to the frame.

  3. 3

    Edit and export

Correct any names or terms in the editor, then download the video with Hungarian subtitles burned in, or export a clean .srt or .vtt file.

Why Hungarian needs its own transcription approach

Hungarian is agglutinative: grammatical meaning is added to a word as a chain of suffixes, and each suffix takes the vowel that harmonises with the root. A single noun can carry case, possession and number in one long word. A model has to identify the root, then parse each suffix in turn, then spell them with the vowels harmony requires — because the audio often does not distinguish the alternatives clearly.

The verb system adds a second layer. Hungarian conjugates verbs differently depending on whether the object is definite, so the correct form of "I see" depends on what is being seen. That is a decision made from the sentence, not from the sound, and it is where a model that merely recognises Hungarian phonemes produces grammatical errors on every line.

And then the letters. Hungarian has nine accented vowels, two of which — ő and ű — take a double acute that many fonts render as a tilde and many tools drop entirely. The transcript writes them correctly, the export is UTF-8, and the caption styles use fonts that actually contain the glyphs, so what you see in the editor is what your viewer sees on a phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specific to Hungarian, not the generic list.

Are ő and ű written with the double acute?

Yes. The correct Unicode characters are used rather than õ or ü substitutes, and the caption fonts contain the glyphs so they render properly on export.

Does it apply vowel harmony to suffixes?

Yes. Suffix vowels are chosen to match the root, so endings like -ban/-ben and -hoz/-hez/-höz come out as a Hungarian writer would spell them.

Does it choose between definite and indefinite conjugation?

Yes. The verb form is chosen from the object in the sentence, so látom and látok are used where each belongs.

Can I export Hungarian subtitles as SRT?

Yes. Export a UTF-8 .srt or .vtt for YouTube, or download the video with Hungarian subtitles burned in for Reels, Shorts and TikTok.

Can I get English subtitles from a Hungarian video?

Translated tracks are on the roadmap. The Hungarian transcript comes first so a translation is made from a corrected source.

Can I edit my captions before exporting?

Yes. Correct the transcript, adjust timings, choose a caption style and then export the finished video or a clean SRT or VTT file.
