Video Captions for Ecommerce

Product video on a listing page autoplays with the sound off. Captions are the only thing carrying your pitch to a shopper who never unmutes — and Caption Maker adds them to any clip in about 30 seconds.

Product names, materials, dimensions and model numbers are exactly the words a generic transcription tool mangles. Fix them once in the editor and the same spelling holds across your entire catalogue.

Why ecommerce teams caption

The parts of captioning that matter most for this kind of video.

Built for the muted scroll

Shoppers browse product video without sound far more often than with it. Burned-in captions mean the feature you spent the shoot explaining still lands.

Your SKUs spelled right

Model numbers, fabric names and finish descriptions are where automatic captions fail hardest. Correct them once and reuse the wording across every variant video.

Every placement, one upload

A 9:16 cut for Reels, a square for the feed and a 16:9 for the product page all need different caption framing. Export each without recutting the video.

Sell into more markets

Export subtitle tracks in 50+ languages so the same product video works for the markets you ship to without reshooting or re-recording a voiceover.

How it works

Upload, review, export. No timeline and no timecodes typed by hand.

  1. 1

    Upload your video

Drop in your ecommerce footage as MP4, MOV, MKV or an audio file. Nothing to install, and no account needed to start.

  2. 2

    Generate captions with AI

The AI transcribes the voiceover or demo audio, times each line to the frame, and keeps captions clear of the corner of the frame where storefront UI usually sits.

  3. 3

    Edit and export

Correct the terms specific to ecommerce, then download the video with captions burned in, or export a clean .srt or .vtt file.

Why product video needs captions more than most video does

Almost every other kind of video gets a moment of intent before it plays — someone clicks it, or at least chooses to keep watching. Product video usually does not. It autoplays in a grid, in a feed, or halfway down a product page while the shopper is still scanning the price and the reviews.

That means the audio is off by default, and often the video is only half in view. Whatever the video needs to communicate has to survive being silent and partially visible. Captions are the mechanism: they turn a soundless loop into something that still explains the fit, the material, or the feature that justifies the price.

The second reason is more practical. Product video gets cut into a dozen placements — a listing page loop, a Reel, a paid social ad, an email GIF. Recording a fresh voiceover for each is not realistic, but a caption track generated once travels with every cut and can be restyled per placement in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specific to this kind of video, not the generic list.

Will captions cover up my product in the frame?

You control the vertical position, so captions can sit high, low or centred depending on where the product is. For listing-page loops most people place them low; for vertical social cuts the middle third works best because platform UI covers the bottom.

Can I caption a whole catalogue of product videos?

Yes. Each video is captioned individually, but once you have corrected your recurring product terms in one transcript you can reuse that wording, which is what makes a large catalogue manageable rather than a per-video rewrite.

Does it get product names and model numbers right?

Common words come through accurately; invented brand names and alphanumeric model codes are the ones worth checking, because no transcription model has seen them before. The editor is there for exactly that pass.

Which export should I use for a product listing page?

Burn the captions in. Listing-page video players usually have no captions toggle and often no controls at all, so a separate subtitle file has nothing to attach to.

Can I edit my captions before exporting?

Yes. Correct the transcript, adjust timings, choose a caption style and then export the finished video or a clean SRT or VTT file.
